About Skate Park:
I quit skating about 17 years ago, which was when I was 17, thanks to college. I will always have a place in my heart for extreme sports, especially skateboarding. With that being said, I have enjoyed playing this game so far. I am not too far in the game, but I wanted to show some love, as I know it’s not easy being a dev for a small indie team on Steam, especially when you’re trying to get the word out on a new game that may have flew under the radar for many people with big AAA games like Resident evil Village releasing among others recently. I will shed some light on different aspects of the game that I have had some time to experience, except for the music as I admit, I turned on Spotify while playing the game and turned off the in-game music while keeping just the sound effects on to hear the board flips, grinds and bails, all the good stuff. I like the controls, they will take time to get used to as they are quite different from other skateboarding titles I have played whether 2d or 3d. I would have liked to be able to customize the controls, but the default controls just take time to get used to, there’s nothing wrong with them, I’m just a picky middle-aged man. But the game performs well on the xbox one elite series 2 controller i was using during my half hour or so first session. There are three locations featuring various sections within them. There are 30 goals in each area for free-skate. There is also dozens of goals for each area in random locations such as reaching a certain score, landing a set amount of tricks that the game will call out, racing etc. It’s got a decent amount of variety, so it’s not going to get too repetitive. Most importantly, there is a good level of challenge to the game. You will immediately want to upgrade your skaters stats to three star each challenge and unlock new cosmetics, tricks, locations and more in the skateshop and customization menu. There’s a decent amount of tricks immediately available and a handful of tricks to unlock with skate credit that you earn from completing challenges. The visuals are good for what the game is, as it’s 2.5d. If you’ve played games like Olli Olli 1 or 2 you should know what style of game it is. The grinds sound great whether your sliding on a ledge, or down a rail. I love the pop sound when you do any board trick and even the bails sound good as well. As mentioned before, I can’t comment on the music, but other sources have mentioned the music being pretty good as the games been out since 2019 on IOS i believe. I’ll update my review once I get more time with the game as I plan on going back immediately, but I want to finish my review for now with a few things I would like to be changed or implemented into the game. I think the game needs way more customization options for skaters. I think there is only like 5 hairstyles to choose from whether you pick a male or female skater. In 2021, gamers have come to expect variety and a degree of customization in games and unfortunately at this time, this game is very limited in customization. You can change the skateboard you use such as the deck, trucks and wheels, but again, it’s very limited in options. I feel that there should be much more options and variety in both the way your skater looks and the skateboard customization. It also wouldn’t hurt to add many more tricks, as the game has a decent amount, but I just think it needs more personally. Finally, I think it is crucial that this game has mod support and or workshop support on Steam. The games 10 dollar day one sale price is great, but I think with only three maps, the game needs community mod support to lengthen it’s life and give it more value to gamers that decide to buy it, especially if they decide to buy it after it goes up to full price which is about 15 dollars. Because then your getting close to the 20 dollar range with 3d skateboarding games like Session, where people expect more etc. The game is great though, if you love skateboarding you will enjoy this game. For 10 dollars, I think it’s absolutely worth it and I highly recommend you buy it now!
