About Hot Wheels Open World:
You may question the price at first. $50, for a Hot Wheels game, that I’ll just play to see the cool cars and tracks, and probably never come back to…well turns out it’s a good licensed Trackmania game essentially. And there’s nothing wrong with that at all. I think of it how I did these games when I was a kid, literally the Hot Wheels PC games on Windows 98 – that there will be faults, it won’t be perfect, but damn will it be fun. And it seems to be great fun so far. And the photo mode has no right to be as good as it is. If I could just disable the logo overlay, it’d be a 10/10 photo mode. Wants: An open world mode would be very welcome. I guess you can just fire up the track editor and throw down a start in whatever map and have essentially that, but I honestly want an open world/hub world for multiplayer or the like. A modeling mode would also be cool – but maybe we could see different cars with mods, which would likely be very unofficial as I can see it cutting into their licensed packs/DLC/etc. Negatives: DLC/Packs/the usual suspects for a game like this with it’s licensing, it kinda makes sense, but still don’t love it. Reminds me a lot of Ridge Racer, but with gravity defying tracks. Has the Hot Wheels’ nostalgia with less emphasis on speed mitigation around corners. This game will have you drifting around corners! Only real complaints so far is there is no true widescreen support, and when playing on 3440×1440 some of the prompts don’t properly show. No first person perspective or alternative views — only the fixed behind the car aspect. Game has a store front and the emphasis on opening random boxes in hopes of a good car.
